JJHS track teams earn first, second at Silsbee meet

Jasper Junior High School seventh and eighth grade track teams won second and first place, respectively, in the Silsbee meet March 22 and set new school records in the process.

In the eighth grade first place win, Charlotte O'Brien broke the record in the 2400-meter run; Petrina Bronson broke both the 100 and 200-meter hurdle records; Kelsey Murray, the 1200-meter run; and Jocelyn Land, the triple jump.

Both the 400 and 800- meter relay teams took top honors. Those teams consisted of Andrea Barnes, Land, Hannah Vickers, and O'Brien.

The 1600-meters relay team also won first place. Runners were Barnes, Bronson, Vickers, and O'Brien.

Other first place winners in individual events were Jasmine Bronson, 100-meter dash; and Alexa Dutton, shot put and discus.

Second place finishes went to O'Brien, 400-meter dash and high jump; Andrea Barnes, triple jump; and Jocelyn Land, long jump. Land was also third in the 200 meters. Shakil Babino was second in both discus and shot put. Chelsea Mobley was sixth in both events.

The seventh grade team placed second but also set three new school records: Kim Deshotel, triple jump; Nykista Hennington the 100-meter and 200-meter hurdles; and the 800-meter relay team of Nacambria Shaw, Daquita Evans, Ebony Adams, and Deshotel.

The 400-meter relay team also took first place with the same foursome.

Individual finishes in the 100 and 200-meter hurdles included Kiara Cauley, second; Markeyia Armstrong, fourth; T'Lexus McQueen, fourth.

Sprinters included Shaw, second in the 100-meter dash; Evans, fourth, 200- meter; and Adams, fourth in the 200-meters.

Distance runners included Gabriella Perdichizzi, second; and Taylor Manicom, sixth, in the 1200 meters. Manicom was also sixth in the 2400 meters.

Adams was second in triple jump and Deshotel, third in long jump.
