Eight indictments returned by March 27 grand jury

Jasper District Attorney Steve Hollis reported his first three months in office have been busy.

Hollis said in a plea bargain agreement made in March, Robert Jason Johnson accepted a 20 year sentence to the Texas Department of Criminal justice for aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Hollis said it was Johnson's first offense, because it is a 3 g (aggravated) offense, he will have to serve at least half that sentence before he is eligible for parole, whereas a non-3g offense could mean he would be out in one third his sentenced time.

Hollis said the grand jury convened March 27, and heard 11 cases, returned indictments on 10 of them. One indictment was sealed until a warrant is issued and the person arrested.

Labib Waalee, case numbers 10198JD and 10199JD, for possession of a controlled substance and manual delivery of a controlled substance

Yancy Lawson Watkins, case # 10200 JD, for indecency with a child.

Martha Hafford, credit card or debit fraud

Leon Cauley Jr., credit card or debit fraud.

Brandon Hadnot, possession of a controlled substance.

Terrence Harris, manual delivery of a controlled substance.
