Annie Washington celebrated her 100th birthday March 13 with five generations of family and many local well-wishers in attendance, according to nursing home activities director William Hoffman.
Hoffman, who has been at Jasper Nursing and Rehabilitation, was concerned that the only local family in the records was a sister. He wanted to be sure that "Miss Annie" had a good turn out for her party.
She has been a resident of the home for two years, is the Queen Mother of the home's Red Hat Society, and serves on the residents' council.
It turns out "Miss Annie" did have children, no longer living, but their grandchildren's children as well as nieces and nephews came to the party.
Johnnie Beth Freeman and Liz Connell of the Jazzy Jewels of Jasper Red Hat chapter also came and brought "Miss Annie" a new red hat.
