The Jasper Lady Bulldog softball team split last week, picking up a 5-2 win over Kirbyville Tuesday and then losing out to Orangefield 6- 4 Friday at home. Jasper is now 4-5 in the second round of district competition.

"We seem to be jinxed on our own field," Coach Nancy Walker said. "We play better when we're on the road."

First inning errors gave Orangefield three runs, and they were able to capitalize on two more in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs left four stranded on base through the fifth inning, but finally got a break in the sixth.

Abby Dickerson walked, Emily Seale was hit by a pitch and Haley Walker got on base with a walk. Keyna Mason hit a sacrifice fly and brought in two runs. Jasper loaded the bases twice and picked up two more runs on a hit by Lizzy White.

With the score at 5-4, Jasper had a chance to pull out the win in the seventh inning.

Unfortunately, the Lady Bobcats came back with another run on a long ground ball, making the score 6-4.

Jasper came to bat in the bottom of the seventh but three easily caught fly balls ended the game.

"We just aren't getting the hits we need," Walker said.

"We left four runs on base."

Jesse Cordova pitched the first two innings before freshman Shelby Griffin came in to finish.

Griffin got the win over Kirbyville. The Lady 'Dogs picked up five runs on six hits.

Walker hit a single, a double, one RBI and scored two runs.

White and Chanel Lewis singled and scored a run each; Dickerson and Marissa Mays each scored one run.

Laura Fincannon and Stormie Shivers singled. Jasper played Bridge City last night and will be at home Thursday, April 5 against Hamshire-Fannett.
