Bats hot in routs over Kirbyville, Orangefield The Jasper Bulldogs came out swinging last week. With an 18-2 win over Kirbyville and an 11-2 victory over Orangefield, the bats were definitely hot. "We had good at-bats before this with no results and now we're starting to get results," Coach Shawn Mixon said. "I think we played well defensively and swung the bats real well last week." Jasper's two wins last week and Bridge City's 9-7 loss to Silsbee puts all three teams tied at 6-1 in district play. Hopefully, the 'Dogs' momentum carries them through the second round. They were meeting Bridge City for the first time last night with two left handed pitchers on the mound: Justin Parsons for the Bulldogs and Jeff Stringer for the Cardinals. "We've had good pitching all year," Mixon said. "Everything is starting to come together." Jasper scored 18 runs on 15 hits against the Wildcats Tuesday, seven of those runs came in the seventh inning. Pitcher Aaron Stephenson got the win. "Everyone got to play and everyone swung the bat well," Mixon said. "We also got back to playing good defense." At the plate, Taylor Hart was three-for-three; Malcolm Bronson and Travis Reagan, two-forfour; Ryan Ellis, one-forthree with three RBIs. Justin Parsons and Chance Pryor had two RBIs each. Hart, Bronson and Ellis scored three runs each. Reagan and Pryor scored two each. Pitcher Travis Reagan got the win over Orangefield. He gave up two hits and struck out five in five innings. Parsons came in to pitch one inning and struck out two. Hart hit a two-run home run in the second inning and was three for four for the night. Parsons and Bronson were four for four; Ellis and Reagan, two for four. The Bulldogs were at home last night and will be at Hamshire-Fannett Thursday night. Game time is 6:30 p.m. All varsity games from this week on begin at 6:30 instead of the usual 7 p.m. |
