Faces & Places Graduation BBQ Project graduation will host their annual BBQ lunch Thursday, April 12 at the Jasper Fire Hall. The cost will be $5 for a bagged lunch, chips, drink and dessert. Call in orders can be taken the day of the BBQ to 383-6168 and orders can be faxed April ll to 382-1028. This event will be from 10:30 a.m. until food runs out. Derby Luncheon The Women's Civic Club of Jasper will be holding a Kentucky Derby Lunchios on April 12 at the Swan Hotel Bed and Breakfast on 250 N. Main Street at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $15 per person at the door. Garden Hour The Lakes Area Rose Society will meet April 12 at 7 p.m. in the Jasper City Council room at 465 S. Main. Guest speaker will be horticulturist Dennis Franklin, who hosts the radio show "The Garden Hour" and write a weekly gardening column for the Beaumont Enterprise. For more information, call 423- 4756. Matrons and Patrons The past Matrons and Patrons Club invite the public to join them for a Candidates Forum on April 12. It will be held at Madison Lodge on 3852 Masonic Drive in Orange. Rose Society Meeting The Lakes Area Rose Society will be hosting there weekly meeting on April 12 in the Jasper City Council Room at 7:00 p.m. This week Dr. Dennis Franklin will be the guest speaker. He does a gardening column in the Beaumont Enterprise and a radio show. $10,000 Visa card Jasper High School's Project Graduation is selling a limited number (300) of tickets for a $10,000 Visa card to be drawn April 13 at 5 p.m. Call JHS at 384- 3242 or 382-1131. Benefit garage sale Trinity Episcopal Church, corner of Main and Collier, will hold a benefit garage sale Friday, April 13, and Saturday, April 14, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Scouts' garage sale Boy Scout Troop 932 is accepting donations in good condition for garage sales April 14 and 21, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the scout Hut on Second Street across from the Jasper Junior High School. Committee chair Lloyd Persons says, "Please consider a spring cleaning in your home or business and help out the scouting program at the same time." Mother / daughter The Mother / Daughter ministries will hold its fourth annual retreat Friday and Saturday, April 20-21, at the East Texas Baptist Encampment in Newton. Mothers/caretakes and their first through sixth grade girls check in at 5 p.m. Friday for a Hawaiian-themed pajama party. Both days feature praise and worship, group activities and meals. The playdays will be held at the Sabine County Youth Foundation Expo Center in Hemphill. Relay for Life The annual Relay for Life that raises money for the American Cancer Society will be held on the courthouse square in Jasper April 27-28. To volunteer, call Mary Marthaler at 384- 8751. The committee is also seeking talent for the allnight extravaganza. The Relay Idol contest begins at 11:30 p.m., followed by a Karaoke contest. Monthly recycling Texas Beautiful announced that every third weekend recycle bins will be available at the southeast corner of the Community Church parking lot for things like plastic and steel. Area coordinator Patty Shaw says newspapers can be recycled any weekday by dropping them off at the city transfer station on Hi Truett Road. Proceeds from newspaper recycling benefit the Jasper Library. Grief support The Friends of Job is a new grief support organization to help those who have lost a child, grandchild or sibling. Cancer control program Jasper-Newton County Public Health District's breast and cervical cancer control program offers women free breast exams, mammography and pap smear. Women aged 50-64 with limited income, who have no insurance, Medicaid or Medicare are eligible. Luncheon is hosted by Lakes Area Hospice (384- 5995) and Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home (384- 5781). Regional arts East Texas Regional Art Center, located at the corner of Austin and Crockett streets in Jasper features rotating exhibits from national, regional and local artists.
