Relay for Life in final stretch to all-night event

It's coming down to the wire for the teams and committees planning the Big Night - The Jasper Lakes Area Relay for Life April 27.

Events begin at 7 p.m. Friday and end at 7 a.m. the following morning. Lloyd Persons, publicity chair, says there are other Relay for Life events on various dates in Woodville, Hemphill, San Augustine and many other East Texas areas. It is a national phenomenon that raises money for The American Cancer Society.

Persons said the Jasper event is designed so that people can "drop by for awhile or stay the night."

Teams will be selling food or people can bring their lawn chairs and snacks.The Luminarias in remembrance of people with cancer will be lit at 10 p.m. The stage will have live music and other entertainment throughout the night, and will include a "Relay Idol" contest at midnight followed by a Karaoke contest between the teams.
