Region 5 ESC Adult Education received two State Performance Awards at the recent State Adult Education Conference held in Austin; "Best Performance in Adult Basic Education" and "100% AEGIS (Adult Education Guidance Information System) Compliance."

The program serves adults throughout Jasper, Newton and Tyler Counties. Their primary location is the Region 5 Adult Education Center at 302 South Wheeler in Jasper.

Region 5 provides training in basic literacy, reading, writing, math, adult basic, adult secondary, GED preparation, English as a second language, pre-employment, parenting, computer skills, and college preparation. The program serves adults and out-of school youth ages 16 and older. More than 200 students are currently enrolled with ages ranging from 16 to 83 years.

"We are very excited and honored to receive these awards," said Brenda Schofield, program director. "Each member of the adult education staff is committed to student success. The work is more than just an employment opportunity, but rather a calling, and a passion to help others. This passion is evident by the success of the students in many areas of their lives in addition to academics."
