Faces & Places Bluebonnet Club The Bluebonnet Garden Club will meet April 19 in the parking lot of St. Michael's Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. They will be taking a field trip to Peaville Pottery. Cookbook sale The St. Michael's cookbooks will be on sale starting tomorrow, April 19, at the Belle Jim Hotel from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The book features awrd winning recipes from local cooks and from friends around the world. The books cost $10 and everything over cost will benefit the needy, regarless of church affiliation. Annual Candlelight Vigil National Crime Victims' Rights Week is April 22-28. Newton County will have their third Annual Candlelight Vigil at Caney Creek Park (City Park) April 19 at 6:30 p.m. For more information call Tammy Soileau at 379-8600. Scouts' garage sale Boy Scout Troop 932 is accepting donations in good condition for a garage sale 21, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the scout hut on Second Street across from the Jasper Junior High School. Donations will be accepted after 6 p.m. Friday April 20. For more information call 384-8296. 60 Year Reunion The JHS Class of 1947 will meet April 20 and 21 at the Ramada Inn for their class reunion. Recycle Trailer The recycle trailer will be in Jasper April 20 and will leave April 21. It will be located at the southwest corner of the Community Church parking lot on Hwy. 96. Bring cardboard, paper, plastics (#1 and #2), steel and aluminum cans. The newspaper collection is at the transfer station off of Hi Truitt Road. Eastern Star Fundraiser Jasper Chapter #291 order of The Eastern star will have their annual fundraiser April 20 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge Building in Jasper. A barbeque sandwiches, package of chips, bottler of water and two cookies or brownie will be for sale for $5. To order call 384-2774, deliveries can be made. Magnolia Festival The 22nd annual Magnolia Festival will be held Friday and Saturday, April 20-21, at Magnolia Park in Kirbyville. "Lazy Days of Spring" is the theme; winning design of the t-shirts depicting the theme is by Salina Aranda, a high school art student. Parade begins at 10 a.m. April 21. Mother / daughter The Mother/Daughter ministries will hold theirfourth annual retreat Friday and Saturday, April 20-21, at the East Texas Baptist Encampment in Newton. Mothers/caretakers and their first through sixth grade girls check in at 5 p.m. Friday for a Hawaiian-themed pajama party. Both days feature praise and worship, group activities and meals. Concert in the Park Martin Dies, Jr. State Park is opening their new concert season this month with a free concert from 5 - 7 p.m. April 21 in the dining hall on the Walnut side of the park. Square One, a 4-piece band, will be performing. 4-H horse project Sabine County 4-H horse project playday series will start April 21 for six months through Sept. 15. The playdays will be held at the Sabine County Youth Foundation Expo Center in Hemphill. Booklovers Club The Booklovers Club meets monthly every fourth Wednesday at 2 p.m at Coleman Hall, First Presbyterian Church. Next meeting is on April 25 at 2 p.m. Relay for Life The annual Relay for Life that raises money for the American Cancer Society will be held on the courthouse square in Jasper April 27-28. To volunteer, call Mary Marthaler at 384-8751. The committee is also seeking talent for the all-night extravaganza. The Relay Idol contest begins at 11:30 p.m., followed by a Karaoke contest. Bring a covered dish. Red Hat Round-up The annual Round-up of all area Red Hat Ladies will be Saturday April 28 at the East Texas Jamboree in Broaddus. Homecoming The Frisby-Hyden Homecoming will be May 5 from 9 a.m. till 2 p.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Scrapping Valley (old school building). Masonic History All Masons, friends and public are invited to celebrate 140 years of Masonic History on May 12 at 4 p.m. at the Nathan Corley Lodge #294.
