Trinity to reopen as Head Start The old Trinity Episcopal School classrooms will once again ring with the laughter of children when Tri-County Community Action opens a Head Start program there in August, according to Ellen Bean, senior warden of Trinity Episcopal Church. Trinity School closed its doors after more than 50 years last July, when declining enrollment and rising costs made keeping the school open too expensive a burden to maintain. Church elders formed a partnership with Tri-County April 3 to operate a Head Start program at the school facilities on N. Main and Collier Streets in Jasper. Tri-County executive director Lenola Wyatt-Tutt said they will enroll 60 students in the class-based program, and another 30 in the home-based education programs. "Head Start provides children with activities that help them grow mentally, physically, socially and emotionally. Medical and dental care is also offered for each child at no cost to the parents," according to a joint press release from Trinity and Tri- County. Wyatt-Tutt says Tri-County will move in starting May 1, have an open house, and start classes for pre-school children Aug. 13. For more information, call 409 383-0867 or 800 464-1839. |
