Forms for parade due Friday The "Voice of the Jasper Bulldogs," Art Lay, will lead the Jasper Lions Club rodeo parade Wednesday, May 9, according to publicity chair Lloyd Persons. Theme for this year is "Back in the Saddle Again." Lay has a 43-year history in radio and was selected grand marshal this year in recognition of 33 years as a play-by-play sports announcer for Jasper teams. Lay said, "I made my first visit to Jasper to cover the rodeo and parade for KLVI." There is no charge to join the parade, but there are some rules: Entry forms can be picked up at the Jasper Lake Sam Rayburn Area Chamber of Commerce at 246 E. Milam Street (phone: 384-2762). Forms, which are due by this Friday, April 27, at 5 p.m., must include the total length of space needed at the line-up, including the length of the truck or tractor pulling the entry. Equine entries will be required to show proof of Coggin's Test on parade day. Entries need to be lined up for judging by 4:15 p.m. on the day of the parade. First, second and third place trophies will be awarded in six categories: commercial, civic, church, youth, marching band and trail riders. |
