Regional qualifiers out to better time in Humble
By GEORGIA PURDY Newsboy Correspondent

Jasper's regional qualifiers competed at Hemphill Saturday in a warm-up meet before heading to the Region III contest in Humble next weekend.

John Sells won the boys' 200-meter race in 22.4, improving his 22.86 run that earned him second place in the District 21 3-A meet.

Jaleesa Johnson won the girls' 100-meter run with a time of 12.6, under her 13.40, which earned her second place at district.

Freshman Breeuuna Hafford ran the 400-meter in 63 seconds. The top time was 61 seconds. Hafford shaved off almost two seconds from her first place district win.

"Our runners competed well and improved their times," girls' coach Shareba Smith said. "I think it's possible that our individual events have a good chance of getting out of Region."

The mile relay team also competed but did not improve their time.
