Drug sweep nets weapons, stolen vehicles in Buna
By JIMMY GALVAN Managing Editor

Authorities believe a drug sweep made in the Buna area will slow the amount of meth drug trafficking in Jasper County.

The Department of Public Safety narcotics task force served an arrest warrant on Jimmy Ray Hogan, 31, of Buna, Thursday, April 26 after a narcotics investigation.

"This will have a large impact on the county as a whole because he not only allegedly distributed in Buna but in Evadale, Kirbyville and Jasper," said Jasper County Sheriff's Investigator Stacey Chambers. "We have been aware of Hogan's dealings for some time now."

At the present moment, Hogan is being held in the Jasper County Jail on a felony possession of a firearm and possession of stolen property charge. Additional charges are pending.

Chambers said a search of the Hogan's residence revealed several stolen weapons and multiple stolen vehicles. Authorities were able to seize a large amount of property from "his alleged drug transactions."

"All of these items will be going to a forfeiture hearing and then be auctioned off," Chambers said. "The proceeds will then be returned to the sheriff's office."
