Accident claims life of Jasper man

A two-vehicle accident Friday, May 4 claimed the life of a Jasper man.

According to Department of Public Safety accident reports, a vehicle driven by Sharon Borel, 41, of Kirbyville crossed the centerline on U.S. Highway 96 and struck another vehicle head-on Friday morning after midnight.

Lawrence Smith, 32, of Jasper, was driving northbound in a 1985 Oldsmobile and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Chris Smith, 28, a passenger in the Oldsmobile and Borel were taken to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital and treated and released.

No charges have been filed on the accident as of press time Tuesday.
