Shrine Fund Drive

The East Texas Shrine Club is conducting their annual fund drive throughout the month of May to benefit Shriners hospitals in Galveston and Houston. For more information, call 384- 5904.

Fire Department Barbeque

The Tri Community Volunteer Fire Department will be selling barbeque for $3 May 9 at the vacant lot next to the P.N. Ashy Store at 10 a.m.

Writers Guild

Playwright Dwight Bullock will be guest speaker at the May 10 meeting of the Sabine Neches Writers Guild at 6:30 p.m. at 103 E. Houston Street in Jasper. For more information, go to www.snwg.org.

Rose Society Meeting

The Lakes Area Rose Society will hold their monthly meeting May 10 at 7 p.m. in the Jasper City Council Room, 465 S. Main, Jasper. For more information call 423-4756.

Rayburn Bloomers

The Rayburn Bloomers Garden Club will meet May 10 at the home of Trudi Hollyfield at 278 Concord Hill Road, and from there tour two other yards, Glenda May's and Beverly Martin's.

Hospital auxiliary

The Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital auxiliary volunteers will hold a jewelry sale fundraiser May 10, 8 a.m.- 4p.m., in the southwing dining room.

Cemetery Work Day

Ebenezer Cemetery will have a work day May 12. If possible come early and be sure to bring a lunch.

Free Car Seat Inspection

There will be a free car seat inspection May 12, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., at The Matthew Center Community Church on 720 South Wheeler. Seats will be checked for proper installation, fit to your child, and for safety recalls. Adults need to bring their child and know their weight.

Builders breakfast

The Jasper/Lake Sam Rayburn Chamber of Commerce will hold their builders breakfast May 16 at 7:30 a.m. at Wings Over Jasper on U.S. Highway 96 North. Breakfast will be hosted by Workforce with speaker Clifford Williams of Angelina County speaking on violence in the workplace. RSVP 384-2762.

4-H awards banquet

The Jasper 4-H members will hold an awards banquet May 17 at 6:30 p.m.at the Pavilion in the Pines on U.S. Highway 96 North. They will award a memorial scholarship in the name of Lawrence Wayne Gilley, a 15-year-old member who died in a car accident.

Bluebonnet Garden

The Bluebonnet Garden Club will meet with Jo Marie Jones at 10:30 a.m. May 17 for lunch and installation of officers.

Booklovers Club

The Booklovers Club meets monthly every fourth Wednesday at 2 p.m at Coleman Hall, First Presbyterian Church. Next meeting is May 23 at 2 p.m.

10 year reunion

The Jasper High School class of 1997 will hold their reunion June 22-23 and will include a Friday cook-out, Saturday tour and tree planting, and dinner. For more information contact Nekiva Scott at 409 225- 0121.

30 year reunion

20 Year Reunion

Cookbooks

St. Michael's cookbooks are on sale during lunchtime at the Belle Jim Hotel. Everything over cost of printing benefits the needy, regarless of church affiliation.

Senior Volunteers

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program needs volunteers, age 55 and up, to fill many areas of need in Jasper and Newton counties. Call Ginger Studensky at 384-5704, ext. 271.

Grief support

The Friends of Job is a grief support organization to help those who have lost a child, grandchild or sibling. They meet the first and third Tuesday each month from 6:30-8 p.m. at First Baptist Church. For more information call Brenda Job, 698-2356.

HELP needed

The Health Equipment Loaner Program (HELP) provides uninsured and underinsured individuals with medical equipment at no cost. Call ETHAN 384- 2099 or come by 117 W. Houston St. in Jasper.

Bereavement luncheon

Caring Friends bereavement luncheon for anyone who has lost a loved one is held the third Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m. at the Belle-Jim Hotel. Luncheon is hosted by Lakes Area Hospice (384-5995) and Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home (384-5781).
