Football on horizon for Brooks' Dawgs

Not all the dates have been set just yet, but football is right around the corner for Jasper football fans.

Jasper Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Thomas Brooks is getting his Bulldogs ready for the upcoming seven-onseven season by joining up with tournaments in the area.

Brooks said the schedule is sketchy at the present moment but did confirm Jasper will participate in a Lufkin tournament June 23 at the high school. Pool play is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

"We are going to host some tournaments and get into some leagues," Brooks said. "We're going to get in as much football as we can because we are a little behind right now."

Brooks said he is in the process of finalizing the roster for the seven-on-seven season.

"Everybody wants to play in it and you only can have 20 and right now we are just narrowing it down the best ones available," Brooks said.

He said the Dawgs are working on their offensive scheme during the athletic period.

"The kids are doing their running and lifting on their own after school," Brooks said. "We are treating it just like spring practice right now but without pads and during our athletic period so that we can coach."
