3 kittens found in rodeo hay

Newsboy photo/ Sharon Kerr WITHOUT A SHELTER, the Jasper Lakes Area Humane Society relies on foster homes to try to save abandoned animals. These tiny kittens may not have been deliberately dumped - they were found in a load of hay at the rodeo. In a week or so they will be big enough to adopt.Visit the Petlink site at www.jas.net/~jar or call JLAHS at 384-8251 Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m. - 7p.m.
Three little kittens have lost their mama. It's not a nursery rhyme but a sad fact that the Jasper Lakes Area Humane Society deals with on a daily basis.

These kittens were found in a load of hay dropped off at the Jasper Lions Rodeo Arena. No one is quite sure where they came from, so reuniting them with mama is not an option. The kittens are still small enough to need to nurse, so a JLAHS volunteer will bottle-feed them until they are big enough to adopt.

The local humane society is trying to gather support from local governments and Jasper County to finance a shelter. Currently, rescued animals are kept at "foster" homes of JLAHS members.

JLAHS is constantly trying to raise money to support the organization. The recent garage sale raised more than $1,000, equal to about a month's worth of vet bills, according to their website.

Plans are already underway for Fall Fest activities, one of the largest JLAHS fund-raisers of the year.

To adopt a pet, offer a donation, or become a JLAHS member, visit the Petlink site at www.jas.net/~jar or call 384-8251 Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.
