Recycle efforts making progress
Trailer here May 18-20

Courtesyy photo DON'T MESS WITH JASPER - KJB volunteers separate trash from banks of wildflowers and wonder why anyone would litter.
Can by can and cup by cup, Keep Jasper Beautiful is making progress, according to coordinator Patty Shaw.

The recycle trailer will again be in the Community Church parking lot this weekend, May 18-20, on S. Wheeler Street (U.S. Highway 190) in Jasper. In April, people recycled 2,840 pounds of paper, plastic, aluminum and steel.

"This is the most it has ever collected," Shaw said. "We are making great progress."

The trailer is in Jasper every third weekend, and a complete list of what can be recycled is available from Shaw at pgjis@cmaaccess.com or 384- 6760.

"One of our largest success stories is the paper recycling we are doing in area schools," Shaw said.

Evadale Junior High and Elementary, Buna Junior High and High School, Kirbyville Junior High and Elementary, and Jasper Junior High and Rowe Intermediate all collect paper.

KJB also participated in the Great American Cleanup in bitterly cold weather, picked up trash on several roads and highways in the city and the county, and helped with the P.N. Ashy clean up and sale after the roof

collapsed on the historic store.

The next KJB meeting is June 5, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., at the Woman's Civic Club across from Wesley Center.
