Please understand that they still may be edited or omitted due to space and/or timeliness.- Jeff Reedy Shrine Fund Drive The East Texas Shrine Club is conducting their annual fund drive throughout the month of May to benefit Shriners hospitals in Galveston and Houston. For more information, call 384-5904. Rock club The Pine County Gem and Mineral Society will meet May 17 at 7 p.m. at the Lutheran Church on U.S. Highway 190 in Jasper. Guest speaker will be Dr. Jim Jordan, professor of earth and space sciences at Lamar University. Newton Lions The Newton Lions Club will meet for lunch at noon May 17 at First Baptist Church. Texas Scholars will be guest speakers. 4-H awards banquet The Jasper 4-H members will hold an awards banquet May 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Pavilion in the Pines on U.S. Highway 96 North. They will award a memorial scholarship in the name of Lawrence Wayne Gilley, a 15-year-old member who died in a car accident. Bluebonnet Garden The Bluebonnet Garden Club will meet with Jo Marie Jones at 10:30 a.m. May 17 for lunch and installation of officers. Women's Civic Club The Women's Civic Club will hold a meeting May 17 on 156 West Milam Street at 11:30 a.m., hosted by the Conservation Department. Social Security The social security representative will be in Jasper at the Senior Center on Fletcher Street May 17 from 9 a.m. - noon, and in Newton at the old hospital building from 1 - 3 p.m. the same day. Magnolia Homecoming Magnolia Springs Community Cememtery Association will host their annual homecoming May 19. Business meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. with lunch following. Donations can be made at Community Bank. Angelina Summer Session Angelina College will hold its Summer I registration at the Jasper Higher Education and Technology Center from 8:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. May 23. For more information call 489- 9000. Booklovers Club The Booklovers Club meets monthly every fourth Wednesday at 2 p.m at Coleman Hall, First Presbyterian Church. Next meeting is May 23 at 2 p.m. 10 year reunion The Jasper High School class of 1997 will hold their reunion June 22-23 and will include a Friday cook-out, Saturday tour and tree planting, and dinner. Grief support The Friends of Job is a grief support organization to help those who have lost a child, grandchild or sibling. HELP needed The Health Equipment Loaner Program (HELP) provides uninsured and underinsured individuals with medical equipment at no cost. Call ETHAN 384-2099 or come by 117 W. Houston St. in Jasper. Bereavement luncheon Caring Friends bereavement luncheon for anyone who has lost a loved one is held the third Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m. at the Belle-Jim Hotel. Luncheon is hosted by Lakes Area Hospice (384-5995) and Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home (384-5781). Regional arts East Texas Regional Art Center in Jasper features rotating exhibits.
