Crimestoppers Band stars at Martin Dies Saturday afternoon Local police officers will perform in the Crimestoppers Band at Martin Dies Jr. State Park Saturday, May 26, from 2 - 4 p.m. Crimestoppers have entertained for 20 years with a blend of country, rock and roll, swing, blues and jazz. Profits from the sale of Crimestoppers CDs goes to the Crimestoppers Organization to reward citizens for reporting crimes. The free concert will take place under the covered pavilion in the Hen House Ridge unit if weather permits, or moved to the dining hall in the Walnut Ridge if necessary. Many of the park's usual summer activities are cancelled indefinitely until repairs to the dam are completed by the Corps of Engineers. The water level of Lake Steinhagen was drawn down in an attempt to control an invasive water plant, but when the Corps decided to take advantage of the low water to work on the dam, one problem after another has delayed re-filling the lake. Martin Dies Park has cancelled all water-related activities until further notice, including boats ramps and fishing piers. "After 16 years of very successful and exciting Fish Flop Li'l Kids Fishing Tournaments (the park) announced cancellation of this year's tournament due to lack of water in B.A. Steinhagen reservoir," said Naomi Obaya, park representative. The Fish Flop traditionally is the first Saturday in June. Also canceled are the Float the Forks canoe trip. The park continues to hold nature programs and is open for hiking, biking, picnics and camping. For more information, visit www.tpwd.state.tx.us or call the park office at 383- |
