Area teams still alive in playoff chase

The Buna Cougars stayed alive in the Class 2A playoffs by defeating Nacogdoches Central Heights in a twogame series Friday night.

Buna completed the two-game sweep by defeating the Blue Devils 3-2 Friday in Jasper.

The Cougars opened the series with a 17-4 thrashing of Central Heights but watched as the Blue Devils jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the second game Friday night.

It would be all the runs that Buna pitcher Tucker Muckleroy would give up on the night. He would finish the night with 12 strikeouts

Buna tallied three runs in the fifth with the winning run coming home on a Ryan Sheppard sacrifice fly.

Buna will face Hooks in a best of three game series at Carthage High School May 24 and 26.

Also alive in Class 2A are the Woodville Eagles who swept Hemphill in a two-game series. Woodville won game one 5-2 and then came back and captured the series with a 13-3 secondgame win.
