Feds miss again

For some time now, this region of Texas has fought with the federal government to make it understand just how crushing Hurricane Rita was on the area.

Last week, the U.S. House once again turned a blind eye to the region as they failed to approve a measure that would provide equal treatment for communities devastated by Hurricane Rita.

The measure, which was introduced by U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady, would have directed Texas to receive 10 percent of the new Affordable Housing Fund to help families build affordable houses - which would have made $52 million available for new housing.

Brady believes the reason the measure failed was because a new Congress is just being seated and they have no idea what Rita did to this region.

We are on the doorstep of another hurricane season and the threat looms ahead that a storm may threaten our area.

There are many lessons learned from Rita. The main one that sticks with East Texas residents sadly remains not to trust your federal government.

Roses go to….

t How about them Bulldogs? Jasper swept Lufkin Hudson and will now face off against Bridge City for the right to go to Austin.

t Woodville's also advanced in the Class 2A playoffs and will face Hooks this week.

t The Sabine River Authority who finally decided to go along with the wishes of the residents and approve a water level of 168 mn. feet. It took a while, but it was a good move to save the area from losing more recreational money.
