Faces & Places Newton Lions Club The Newton Lions Club will hold a noon luncheon June 7 at First Baptist Church. Special guests will be the volunteer staff and athletes from the Newton Gym and Boxing Club, www.newtongym.com. Library Summer Reading The Jasper Public Library will host their Texas Summer Reading Program June 7-28 every Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Jasper Fire Hall next to the Jasper Library. It is open to all ages. Tutoring and one-onone reading can be signed up for after the program with library staff and volunteers. Cemetery Work Day North Baptist Cemetery, US 96 three mile north of Jasper, is having a work day and business meeting June 9 at 7:30 a.m. After work a covered dish lunch will be shared. Ebenezer Homecoming The Homecoming at Ebenezer will be June 9. 20 Year Reunion The Jasper High School class of 1987 will hold a 20 year reunion June 9. Shaw Reunion The Shaw reunion, June 10 in the First National Bank Schofield room, is for all descendants of John William (Uncle Billy) Shaw. If attending, bring a covered dish for lunch and pictures. Free memory seminar The county extension office will host Am I losing my mind?, a free program on aging memory at the First National Bank Community Room Friday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to noon. RSVP Cindy VanDevender, 994-3721. J.H. Rowe Reunion The J.H. Rowe Reunion will be held June 14-16. All events will be held at the Lone Star Building located on Broad St., Jasper. Registration will be Thurs. and Fri. from 10 - 6 p.m. Sat. the picnic will be at 2 p.m on the Rowe Campus and Sat. night will be awards and dance at 8 p.m. For more information contact Joe Clyde Adams at 384-8394. Author Richard Donavan Author Richard Donavan is coming to Martin Dies, Jr. State Park June 16 at 7 p.m., at the newly-rebuilt Nature Center, on the Walnut Side. He will have a slide show presentation highlighting the natural beauty, historical and ecological importance of the Neches River. 10 year reunion The Jasper High School class of 1997 will hold their reunion June 22-23 and will include a Friday cook-out, Saturday tour and tree planting, and dinner. Family Fun Day The city of Colmesneil and Colmesneil ISD will have a family fun day June 30 at Lake Tejas, FM 256 East, 1 mile off of HWY 69 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Entertainment will include "Crime Stoppers band," "Yeller Dog" and a fireworks display.
