Summer youth enrichment program begins next week The Deep East Texas Foundation will continue to educate and academically prepare students through its free Summer Youth Enrichment Program, according to Walter Diggles, executive director of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments. The program will begin June 11, (Mon.-Thurs.) 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., to help students meet state and local standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math, along with many other activities. To advance student achievement, enrichment programs include: + Remedial education activities, which allows students to improve their academic achievement. + Mathematics and science education activities. + Art and music education activities. + Tutoring services, including those provided by mentoring programs. + Programs that provide activities for limited English proficient students and emphasize language skills and academic achievement. + Telecommunications and technology programs. + Library services. + Family involvement and literacy programs. + Programs that provide assistance to students who have been truant, suspended, or expelled to allow them to improve their academic achievement. + Drug and violence prevention programs. + Counseling programs. Open house will be June 8 from 3 - 7 p.m. Registration is required for enrollment. Transportation and meals will be provided throughout the program. |
