Newsboy wins Best of Hearst

Your hometown Jasper Newsboy won some of the Best of Hearst Honors for 2006. The Newsboy received the William Randolph Hearst Jr. Prize for Watchdog Journalism.

In the Watchdog Reporting division editor Jimmy Galvan and Julie Webb received first place honors for "Jasper County post-Rita budget crisis."

Sharon Kerr received third place for her story on "Rayburn Country." In the headlines division Julie Webb also received first place for "Moo-la." In the persuasive writing/commentary division Willis Webb received second place for his story "Local actions."

In addition to Hearst Honors, The Jasper Newsboy received awards from the Press Club of Southeast Texas. The Newsboy received third place in general excellence.

Galvan also received first place for his news photo, "Tragedy Claims Children's Lives," and sports photo, "Missed Ball."
