Jasper royalty crowned As girls walked in the room with up-dos and gowns the "Celebration of Jasper" was just beginning. Tears of joy streamed down Jessica Alvis' face as she was crowned Miss Jasper 2007, Saturday evening, June 9, at the 43rd Annual Miss Jasper Scholarship Pageant held at the First United Methodist Church Wesley Center. Other winners that night include Miss Teen Jasper Megan Jordan, Young Miss Jasper Victoria Boulware and Little Miss Jasper Ashton Grace Boulware. Alvis, 16-year-old daughter of Rachel and David Alvis, will be a senior at Jasper High School this upcoming fall. Ashley Garcia, the daughter of Renee and Greg Garcia, was named first runner-up. She also won most photogenic and Miss Congeniality. Tokoia Watts, daughter of Rita and Jeff Watts, was second runner-up and won the talent competition. Britni White, the daughter of Melinda and Tracy White, was third runner-up. Jordan, the 15-year-old daughter of Danna and the late John Jordan, also won most photogenic and the talent competition, along with the Miss Teen Jasper title. Kamrie Quick, the daughter of Ronnie Quick and Robin Baxter, was first runner up. Savannah Harwell, the daughter of Brandy and Justin Harwell, was the first runner-up in the Young Miss division. She also won most photogenic. Laura Smith, the daughter of Kristin and Gary Smith, was second runner-up. Emily Smith, daughter of Kristin and Gary Smith, was third runner-up. The Community Involvement Award for participation in Lions Club Rodeo went to sisters Emily and Laura Smith. Britney Richard, the daughter of Jeannie and Thomas Richard, was first runner-up in the Little Miss division. Haley Sierra Taylor, the daughter of Amanda and Jerry Taylor, was second runner up. Shelby McClelland, the daughter of Ami and Kurt McClelland, was third runner up. Kristen Nichole Crosson, the daughter of April and Christopher Crosson, was fourth runner-up and awarded most photogenic. New for the guys, a Gentlemen's Award was presented to one escort from each division. Sterling Hood, son of Rebel and Patrick Hood, received the Gentlemen's Award in Miss Jasper division. Ryan Gatson, son of Rhonda and George Martin, received the Gentlemen's Award in Teen Miss division. Cayne Ueckert, son of Cara and Jason Ueckert and Brandy and Justin Wood, received the Gentlemen's Award in Young Miss division. Spencer Gobert, son of Jennifer and Mason Gobert, reveived the Gentlemen's Award in Little Miss division. As the evening progressed the "Celebration of Jasper" was upheld with queens and aspiring queens talents from Frisco to Jasper. Makayla Woolems, Little Miss Jasper 2006, and Hope Hancock, Young Miss Jasper 2006, sang "Big Big Dreams." Later, talent competition winners, Watts and Jordan, performed their talent pieces for everyone. Watts played "Some Where Over the Rainbow" on her flute and Jordan sang "Part of Your World" from "The Little Mermaid." During intermission, as VIP guests ate, Shilah Phillips, Miss Texas 2006, sang "Respect" by Aretha Franklin to begin her 20 minute concert and many songs after that. Marcie Ratcliff, Miss Teen Jasper 2006, sang "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend." |
