It's a pirate's life for me...

Newsboy photo/ Katie Waldrop SUMMER READERS,Talent Young, (left), and Lavarius Carter wear their eye patches to get ready to sail away in a sea of books at the Jasper Public Library's Summer Reading Club last Thursday.
From sea to shining sea, the Jasper Library keeps "Sailing Away With Books" this summer with their children's program every Thursday morning at 10 a.m.

The children had a few guests join them in their reading quests. Kay Breidenthal read "Davy's Dream" and Shari Gunter read "The Wild Thing."

As the morning continued Chrys Jeter from C & M Pets came with her Conure Parrot and Jackson's chameleon. The children were even told that if their parents agreed Jeter would bring a goldfish to give to each of the kids, all of them were excited.

"Reduce, re-use, recycle," all the kids were singing this as they walked out the doors to go home. "Hazel Jewel Jasper," Patty Shaw, coordinator of Keep Jasper Beautiful, came dressed as a tree to teach the children about recycling and how to keep Jasper clean.

For more information on the program call the library at 384-5508.
