Faces & Places Family Violence The Newton County Family Violence Task Force will meet June 28 at noon at the Newton United Methodist Church. Tri Community Barbecue The Tri Community Volunteer Fire Department will sell barbecue lunches June 30 at the fire station in Magnolia Springs at 10 a.m. There will be choice of brisket, ribs, sausage or chicken; with potato salad, beans, bread, dessert and tea all included for $5. Family Fun Day The city of Colmesneil and Colmesneil ISD will have a family fun day June 30 at Lake Tejas, FM 256 East from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Entertainment will include "Crime Stoppers band," "Yeller Dog" and a fireworks display. Grief support The Friends of Job helps those who have lost a child, grandchild or sibling. They meet the first and third Tuesday each month from 6:30-8 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Cancer control program Jasper-Newton County Public Health District's breast and cervical cancer control program offers women free breast exams, mammography and pap smear. Women aged 50-64 with limited income, who have no insurance, Medicaid or Medicare are eligible.
