Battle for Tiger Truck has only just begun

Jasper's true fighting spirit is being tested this week as city and county officials are working hard in wake of Tiger Truck's announcement to close action on its proposed Jasper plant.

There was a collective "groan" in Jasper last week when it was reported that Tiger Truck was pulling its proposed plant out of Jasper after the real estate deal fell through. The plant was to infuse economic growth to this community.

Jasper economic leaders were moving forward with counter proposals in an effort to the keep the pulse alive on the plant that was showered with praise and fanfare during their March 2007 announcment.

Now is not the time to point fingers over the demise of this deal but to readjust our chin straps and take up the battle.

There is no villain in this scenario. There is no one to blame. Real estate deals fall through all the time. It's just the nature of the business.

There will be some that will point the finger of blame over Tiger Truck's decision but those are short-sighted people with their own agendas.

We commend JEDCO for their service in working hard to place Jasper on this company's radar. We commend the city, county and school district officials for their work on this venture.

Remember what U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady said at Tiger Truck's press conference - "Jasper's greatest untapped resource is its people..."

It's time to show everyone that now.
