WATER is required for fireworks

"Remember the water if you are planning to shoot off fireworks tonight," Jasper Fire Marshal Stephen Williamson said.

"City ordinance requires you to have a water source, either a hose with the water turned on or at least five gallons of water," Williamson said. "It can be in any form, a five gallon bucket or five one gallon buckets, but the important thing is to have water handy in case the fireworks touch off something."

With all the rain in June, Williamson said that only means the vegetation is higher. It only takes a little wind to dry tall weeds to where a spark can catch.

The other thing Williamson would like to emphasize is adult supervision and safety.

Channel 12 in Beaumont interviewed one father who was buying fireworks with his boys. The father said he would definitely supervise, "To be sure they don't do the dumb things I did when I was their age."
