Teachers participate in Lamar University program

Teachers Sue Saunders, of Jasper High School, and Arleen Broughton and Cindy Nicks, both of Buna Junior High School participated in the Lamar University Departments of Mathematics and Professional Pedagogy and Region 5 Education Service Center program, June 20-22, in Beaumont.

This program hosted 23 high school and middle school teachers from across Southeast Texas as part of The Texas State University System Mathematics for English- Language Learners Initiative.

"The initiative is a multi-year, multimilliondollar effort aimed at developing instructional resources designed to increase the effectiveness of mathematics instruction for students who are English- language learners (ELL)," said Sandra Richardson, assistant professor of mathematics and a co-primary investigator for the project.
