Council slates public hearing on final budget
City signs off on EDA grant

Jasper's city council set a public hearing for the 2007- 2008 fiscal year budget for Aug. 13 at 5:45 p.m.

Two budget workshops have been held by city council in preparation for the approval of this year's budget.

During the June 19 meeting, City Manager Alan Grindstaff said the 2007- 2008 budget of $22,694 was a balanced budget and used no beginning fund balances as part of the budget.

In other council business:

t Jasper Mayor David Barber signed off on the Economic Development Administration Grant of $800,000 that was awarded last week to the city of Jasper and the Jasper Independent School District.

The investment will assist in establishing the Jasper Vocational Training Center.

t Council approved a conversion to a font load commercial solid waste and recycling cardboard.

Grindstaff said the conversion will be costly at first for the city "but at the same time will save us $182,440 a year to purchase other equipment."

t Council recognized Bo Duckworth as employee of the month. Duckworth is the building inspector for the city and has been with the city for 14 years.

t After a short executive session meeting, council approved a measure to purchase the Trotti Addition. No figures were released on the sales price.
