Writers Guild

The Sabine Neches Writers Guild will meet July 12 in the meeting room of the RE/MAX Millennium real estate office on the corner of Main and Houston at 6:30 p.m. with guest Anita Machek.

Generation Celebration

The second annual generation celebration will be July 14 at Sandy Creek Park from 3 - 8 p.m. with food and games. Hosted by the Young Women's Circle.

CASA Program

Advocates for Children, Inc. "A CASA Program," at 908 N. Wheeler in Jasper, is having volunteer training classes July 14, 21 and 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The training manual is $20 due at the first class and applications must be completed and sent from the Jasper office at 384-2272. RagBall Tournament

Hemphill PeeWee Football League will sponsor a ragball tournament July 14 at the Hemphill Little League Ball Park and concessions will be available. Team must be four girls, or boys can be substituted if 12 and under. To enter call Karen Bennett at 787- 2714.

Evans Family Reunion

The Evans family reunion July 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. will be at the Senior Citizens Building in San Augustine by the railroad tracks. Covered dishes are requested and something to drink. For more information call Barbara Sowell at 903-948-2481.

30 year reunion

Boater education

There will be a boater education class Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Jasper Firehall for $5. Must be at least 12 years old to receive certification and must RSVP by Aug. 1. Contact Cindy at 384-6894 for more information.

Senior Volunteers

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program needs volunteers, age 55 and up, to fill many areas of need in Jasper and Newton counties. Call Ginger Studensky at 384- 5704, ext. 271.

Grief support

The Friends of Job helps those who have lost a child, grandchild or sibling. They meet the first and third Tuesday each month from 6:30-8 p.m. at First Baptist Church. For more information call 698-2356.

Cancer control program

Jasper-Newton County Public Health District's breast and cervical cancer control program offers women free breast exams, mammography and pap smear. Women aged 50-64 with limited income, who have no insurance, Medicaid or Medicare are eligible. Call the Jasper office at 384-6829; Newton office at 379-5291; Kirbyville office at 423-6133 or the Buna office at 994-5921, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

HELP needed

The Health Equipment Loaner Program (HELP) provides uninsured and underinsured individuals with medical equipment at no cost. Call ETHAN 384-2099 or come by 117 W. Houston St. in Jasper.

Bereavement luncheon

Caring Friends bereavement luncheon for anyone who has lost a loved one is held the third Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m. at the Belle-Jim Hotel. Luncheon is hosted by Lakes Area Hospice (384-5995) and Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home (384-5781).

Regional arts

East Texas Regional Art Center in Jasper features rotating exhibits. The art league meets the first Monday of each month and is open to the public. For more information call 384-2404 or 489-9460.

Caring volunteers

Lakes Area Hospice is in need of volunteers to sit with patients and help support caregivers in the Jasper area. Churches and other groups are encouraged to participate in volunteer training. For more information contact Paula Moore at 384-8855 or 1- 800-661-9047.

Food bank

Harvest Church at 1501 S. Wheeler now offers a food bank the first Tuesday of each month from 9 - 11 a.m.
