Long-time KISD board member dies in accident A Kirbyville man was killed Sunday morning in a three-vehicle accident north of Bridge City, according to Texas Department of Public Safety personnel. Alton Booker Sr., 56, died after rear-ending a pair of stopped vehicles on Texas Highway 62 about 4:30 a.m., the DPS dispatcher said. Booker was a long-time Kirbyville Consolidated School District board member. He had served as president and currently served as vice-president on the board. "Mr. Booker served for 23 years on the KCISD Board of Trustees, was very active in the African American School Board Caucus and was a Master Trustee as certified through TASB," said Kirbyville Superintendent Dr. Joe Burns through a statement. "Mr. Booker served many leadership roles while on the school board, in service through TASB and in his community. "Mr. Booker also served many churches in the area in various leadership roles," Burns said. "He will certainly be missed in the Kirbyville CISD family as he was a role model for others to emulate, a great husband, a fine father and a true friend." There had been an accident earlier in the morning on Texas 62 and HooHoo Road, which knocked down a telephone pole, the DPS dispatcher said. After that incident, another vehicle ran over the phone pole before Bridge City police arrived, according to DPS. As the vehicles waited for the road to be cleared, Booker ran his 1999 Honda Accord into the back of one of the vehicles, causing the Honda to roll over, the DPS dispatcher said. One other person was injured in the accident. The unidentified person, who complained of back pains, was treated and released from Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital in Orange, according to reports. Booker is survived by his wife Lillian, his son Alton G. Booker, Jr. and daughter Danielle |
