Newton Lions Club

The Newton Lions Club will meet for lunch July 19 at noon at the First Baptist Church with speaker Pamela Caulder-Fine. Her presentation covers concerns of children and youth.

Rock Club

The Pine County Gem and Mineral Society will meet July 19 at 7 p.m. at 110 N. Zavalla in Jasper. Club members are finalizing plans for the annual Gem & Mineral Show in August.

30 year reunion

The Jasper High School class of 1977 is gathering addresses for a 30 year reunion July 20 - 21. Addresses can be sent or to Charla James, charlaj@hotmail. com, 384-7866.

CASA Program

Advocates for Children, Inc. "A CASA Program," at 908 N. Wheeler in Jasper, is having volunteer training classes July 21 and 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The training manual is $20 due at the first class and applications must be completed and sent from the Jasper office at 384-2272. Retirement reception

Tom McClurg, executive director of the Jasper Economic Development Corp. is retiring July 31. A reception will be held in his honor July 26, 3 - 5 p.m. at the Council Chambers at Jasper City Hall on 465 South Main.

Burkeville Homecoming

The Bearkat Ex-Students Homecoming will be Aug. 4 at the Burkeville High School cafetorium. Registration begins at 9 a.m, business meeting at 11 a.m., dinner at 5:30 p.m.

Boater education

There will be a boater education class Aug. 4 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Jasper Firehall for $5. Must be at least 12 years old to receive certification and must RSVP by Aug. 1. Contact Cindy at 384-6894 for more information.

Senior Volunteers

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program needs volunteers, age 55 and up, to fill many areas of need in Jasper and Newton counties. Call Ginger Studensky at 384-5704, ext. 271.

Grief support

The Friends of Job helps those who have lost a child, grandchild or sibling. They meet the first and third Tuesday each month from 6:30-8 p.m. at First Baptist Church. For more information call 698-2356.

Advocates for Children

Advocates for Children Inc. will holdvolunteer training classes for the next three months. Call 1-877- 586-6548, extension 11, for more information.

Cancer control program

Jasper-Newton County Public Health District's breast and cervical cancer control program offers women free breast exams, mammography and pap smear. Women aged 50-64 with limited income, who have no insurance, Medicaid or Medicare are eligible. Call the Jasper office at 384- 6829; Newton office at 379- 5291; Kirbyville office at 423-6133 or the Buna office at 994-5921, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
