LIT Workforce Training sets occupational courses for summer sessions

The Workforce Training Department at Lamar Institute of Technology is offering several occupational training courses and continuing education opportunities during the summer.

Continuing education offerings, dates and cost are: AutoCAD Intermediate, July 28 to Aug. 25, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., $300; Primavera Planning Software Training, July 11-13 or July 18-30, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., $1,050; Basic Computer course, July 28, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., $75; Microsoft Word, Aug. 4, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., $75; Microsoft Excel, Aug. 11, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., $75; Microsoft Access, Aug. 18, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., $75; and Microsoft PowerPoint, Aug. 25, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., $75; and Forklift Training, July 28 or Aug. 4, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., $200.

Command Spanish® for Nursing is scheduled for July 28, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and costs $65. Command Spanish® for Firefighters will be Aug. 11, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and costs $65.

Lamar Institute of Technology's Professional Truck Driving Academy has several starting dates for classes. Each Class A Commercial Driver's License class will run from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, and costs $2,500. Dates in 2007 are: July 23, Sept. 10 and Oct. 29. In 2008, class starting dates are: Jan. 7, Feb. 25, April 14, June 2, July 21 and Sept. 15.

The academy also offers courses in obtaining a Class B Commercial Driver's License and a refresher course. Please call (409) 839- 2942 for more details on those courses.
