South Jasper Water District to hold meeting July 26

The South Jasper Water District will hold a public meeting in Buna Thursday, July 26, at 6 p.m. in the Jasper County sub-courthouse.

County Judge Mark Allen said a positive outcome could bring a $350,000 grant to improve water problems in that part of the county.

ORCA (Office of Rural Community Affairs) has a program that requires an in-kind match of labor, "sweat equity" that saves an average of 53 percent of total project costs.

County grant writer David Waxman said the project would benefit 84 people living along CR 721.

The meeting between ORCA representatives, Jasper officials and the public is to test the level of interest and community commitment.

If the support is there, the county will be asked to take action and apply for the grant, according to Waxman.
