JISD to raise lunch prices

The Jasper Independent School District Board of Trustees approved an increase in student and staff meals in special session, Monday, July 30.

Student and staff lunch prices will increase $.25 for all campuses and breakfast prices at Jasper Junior High and Jasper High School will also go up 25 cents.

Few, Parnell and Rowe will continue to serve breakfast at no cost to students or staff.

Food Service Director Kim Malone said that the increase is due to increasing costs of food and labor.

"We have been absorbing a two to four percent increase in costs for the past couple of years," Malone said. "This increase is just to keep our head above water."

JISD has not raised meal prices since the 2001-2002 school year.

The Board also approved the following new appointments:

Brandy Barber - B.A., Southwestern Adventist University; sixth grade science teacher at Rowe Intermediate School

Kay Breidenthal - B.A., Sam Houston State University; fourth grade teacher at Parnell Elementary

Christopher Coats - B.S., Texas A&M University at Commerce; Physical Education teacher/coach at Jasper High School

Brandon Hargers - B.S., Northwestern Oklahoma State University; P.E. Teacher at Jasper High School

Tammie Hatch - B.S., Lamar University; Health Occupations Teacher at Jasper High School

Daniel Hinson - M.S., Lamar University; assistant band director at Rowe Intermediate School

Christine Jackson - B.S., University of Houston at Clear Lake, science teacher at Jasper Junior High

Nan Kittell - M.S., Lamar University; speech teacher at Jasper High School
