Death at camp assumed to be drowning case

Ryan Dickerson, 18, was found presumed drowned at Camp Champions on Lake LBJ July 29.

According to his aunt Leah Shaw, Dickerson was working as a camp counselor for the summer. He graduated from a Modesto, CA, high school in June and was set to begin Washington University in St. Louis, MO, this fall.

The exact cause of death has not been determined. According to preliminary reports, he was working on a slide and was found only 20 feet from the bank in shallow water.

His parents are Ronnie and Lynn Reives Dickerson of Sacramento, CA. and his grandparents are Harlan and Neva Alexander and H.C. Dickerson, all of Jasper, and the late Betty Dickerson.

Shaw said the family is planning to set up a memorial scholarship in Ryan Dickerson's name.
