Walking the Halls
By VANESSA PHILLIPS Few Principal

The 2007-2008 school year is approaching. I am looking forward to this year and the great things occurring at Jean C. Few Primary School.

Our faculty and staff are committed to providing a quality educational experience that is fun, exciting, and safe every day for all of our students.

Our focus is on quality instruction with high expectations for each child. We want each child to develop his/her skills, talents, and gifts to their greatest ability.

We will be having two assistant principals with us this school year. We welcome back Dr. Dean Miller, and our new assistant principal is Mrs. Wilma Davis. Both of these individuals are an asset to our campus and will be an integral part of our education team.

Children need a strong educational background to face the world of today. Few faculty and staff strive to provide the best instructional strategies, practices, materials, and experiences to assist children in reaching this goal.

Our Language Arts curriculum has been reviewed and revised. We will be using the Saxon Phonics program and will focus on the developmental needs of a child.

Time will be built into the day's schedule to emphasize the four aspects of learning to read - phonics, guided reading, shared reading, and writing/ language.

We will continue the Sharon Wells math curriculum that has proven to be successful.

We ask you, as parents, to join us in educating your child. You can encourage good study habits at home, provide time and space for study, begin a collection of books for recreational reading, read to your child everyday, and develop creativity and curiosity.

Help your child be responsible for their work and their actions. A folder will be sent home weekly keeping you aware of your child's progress.

Another way of being involved is to be a part of our parent organization, PRIDE. We have a strong, active group of volunteers who want every child to have a positive educational experience and be successful in their learning.

If you have a suggestion or concern, please comm unicate with us. We really appreciate all input and feel your input will make us a stronger learning community.

Few Primary is the foundation for the success of Jasper ISD students. It is important for our children to master basic academic skills, problem solving strategies, and citizenship skills that will prepare each to take advantage of the opportunity to learn in the future. Our students are our future.

Our purpose is to serve the needs of each student by providing a quality and equitable opportunity for students to learn within a safe and supportive environment. We are dedicated to Excellence!

I look forward to this school year and I want to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of your child's life.
