'Music is a daily part of our lives'
By JEFF PARMA JISD Band Director

The Jasper band program is made up of over 300 students in grades 6 through 12.

The band program is broken up into three groups; our beginning band begins in the 6th grade on the Rowe Intermediate campus. Students are taught the basics of how to play an instrument and have two concerts during the school year.

At Jasper Junior High the 7th and 8th grade band students perform at pep rallies, concerts, contests, and some of the home football games.

The students are encouraged to participate in region band auditions and perform at UIL Solo & Ensemble competitions.

The Jasper High School Band is made up of students in grade 9 through 12.

The High School Band began its marching band preparation for the fall with freshman on Aug. 2.

The high school band is a highly competitive group participating in many marching and concert band competitions each year.

This year the band will be looking to travel to an out of state competition in the spring.

In addition to learning to play a musical instrument, music plays an important part in the development of each child.

We hear music at the mall, in most of the stores in which we shop, on radio and television, and we even play CD's.

Music is a daily part of our lives. Student involvement in instrumental music has a positive impact on other areas of our lives.

Involvement improves a student's self-discipline, dexterity, coordination, selfesteem, thinking skills, listening skills, creative abilities and personal expression.
