JEDCO approves deal with Apeck

Members of the Jasper Economic Development Corporation approved an agreement with Apeck Construction for the construction of the street and improvements at the Airport Industrial Park. The decision was made during the monthly JEDCO meeting Tuesday, Aug. 7.

James Flourney of Klotz Associates presented the agreement, contracts, bonds, certificate of insurance and notice to proceed documents to board members during the meeting.

Board member David Barber questioned if the JEDCO council had seen and approved the agreement.

Flourney said, "all the bid documents were looked over and the agreement was part of the bid documents."

Flourney informed the board that once the agreement is signed, a copy would be given to the JEDCO attorney and Klotz Associates would hold it until the attorney had a chance to review the documents.

Barber moved to approve the agreement and was seconded by Gloria Monzingo. The motion was approved unanimously.

In related news, the board also approved to pay for the street construction and improvements at the Industrial Park out of cash assets and redeem any certificates of deposit as necessary.

In other action,

Barber requested that several items on the activity report, such as Sky Ranch, the fish hatchery, and 504 lending board be updated and the status of these items be checked on.

Barber also moved to table any action concerning the proposed budget for 2007-08 due to possible inaccuracy of the budget due to a flaw in the Excel program. The budget item was tabled until the September meeting.

Interim JEDCO Executive Director Kari Ellis asked the board to approve financial procedures whereby those board members listed as signers on the checks also are authorized to sign payment authorizations. Ellis also sought that Denise Kelley or Renee Weaver of the city of Jasper's finance office open and view the bank statements prior to reconciliation.
