There will be reception for parents and the community to meet JISD campus administrators today in the JISD Board Room, 128 Park St., from 4:30 - 6 p.m.

Social security

The Newton Lions Club will hold their meeting Aug. 16 at noon in the First Baptist Church; lunch will be served.

Fundraiser

Jasper Lakes Area Humane Society will hold a Fun Day fundraiser Aug. 18 starting at 11 a.m. at the Jasper Animal Hospital, Hwy. 63 West. There will be a dog wash, ring toss, adoptions, pet products and JLAHS kiddie train rides.

Recycle trailer

The recycle trailer will be in the Community Church parking lot Aug. 17 - 20.

Back-to-school blowout

The First Assembly of God Church, next to Lakeway Tire in Jasper, will have a back-toschool blowout Aug. 18 from 4 - 8 p.m.

KJB Concert

Irish Folksinger Danny O'Flaherty will headline a benefit concert for the Keep Jasper Beautiful campaign Saturday, Aug. 18, at 7 p.m. at the Woman's Civic Club on Milam St. For more information, www.jaspercoc.org.

New Student Registration

Jasper ISD new student registration at Few will be Aug. 16 - 24 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Parnell will be Aug. 13 - 24 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Rowe will be Aug. 14 - 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., JJHS will be Aug. 15 - 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., JHS will be Aug. 14 - 16 from 8 - 11:30 a.m. and 1 - 3:30 p.m. and to register with STARS call 384-2720.

Hunter education course

Kenneth Moorehead and the Jasper County Game Wardens will have a hunter education course Aug. 18, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Aug. 19, from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., at Ebenezer Park in the Corp of Engineer building, off Hwy. 255. JHS Alumni Association

The Jasper High School Alumni Association will have a joint meeting with the Jasper School Foundation Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Tech. Building on Visador Road. The tailgate party before the homecoming game and other issues will be discussed.

4 - H and Cloverbuds

Jasper community 4-H and cloverbuds will meet Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hwy. 190 West, to discuss new membership, voting for a new adult leader and events. For 4-H information call Nicole Hamilton at 384-7866 and Betty Morton for Cloverbuds at 384-2604.

1994 Class Reunion

Rockhounds and Gems

After school program

21st Century Community Learning Center, 1013 Helen St. in Jasper (behind the old Burger King), will hold an after school program starting Aug. 27 from 3:30 - 7:30 p.m, Mon. - Thur., for educational developmental and recreational services.

Flag football

Flag football sign-up will be Sept. 1 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Novrozsky's restaurant. Registration is open to boys and girls 4 to 8 years old for $40 per child and coaches are needed. For more information call Jerome Schroer at 383-0993.

Memory Walk

The Beaumont Memory Walk, fight to eliminate Alzheimer's disease, will be held Sept. 29 with registration at 9 a.m. and the walk at 10 a.m. on Crockett St. in downtown Beaumont. Keep Jasper Beautiful

Keep Jasper Beautiful will have a luncheon meeting the first Tues. of every month from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Woman's Civic Club on 156 W. Milam.

Elder Advocate

Volunteers are needed to advocate for and protect the rights of residents in nursing homes. Volunteers will spend time as a Volunteer Ombudsman promoting quality care. No prior experience is required, training and supervision is provided. Must be able to work independently with professional oversight and be willing to submit reports. Senior Volunteers

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program needs volunteers, age 55 and up, to fill many areas of need in Jasper and Newton counties. Call Ginger Studensky at 384- 5704, ext. 271.

Cancer control

Jasper-Newton County Public Health District's breast and cervical cancer control program offers women free breast exams, mammography and pap smear. Women aged 50-64 with limited income, who have no insurance, Medicaid or Medicare are eligible. Call the Jasper office at 384-6829; Newton office at 379-5291; Kirbyville office at 423-6133 or the Buna office at 994-5921, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

HELP needed

The Health Equipment Loaner Program (HELP) provides uninsured and underinsured individuals with medical equipment at no cost. Call ETHAN 384-2099 or come by 117 W. Houston St. in Jasper.

Bereavement luncheon

Caring Friends bereavement luncheon for anyone who has lost a loved one is held the third Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m. at the Belle-Jim Hotel. Luncheon is hosted by Lakes Area Hospice (384-5995) and Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home (384-5781).

Regional arts

East Texas Regional Art Center in Jasper features rotating exhibits. The art league meets the first Monday of each month and is open to the public. For more information call 384-2404 or 489-9460.

Caring volunteers
