Plan evacuation route before storm comes

Prepare a personal evacuation plan before a hurricane comes. Identify where to go if told to evacuate, a friend's home in another town, a motel or a shelter.

Always keep phone numbers available and a map of where you are and where you are going. You need alternate plans in case an evacuation route is closed.

These items should be with you when evacuating:

Prescription medication and medical supplies, bedding and clothing, bottled water, battery-operated radio and extra batteries, first aid kit, flashlight, documents, including driver's license, social security card, proof of residence, insurance policies, wills, deeds, birth and marriage certificates, tax records, etc.
