When the Bulldogs face off against Port Neches- Groves this Saturday, Jasper Head Football Coach Thomas Brooks is looking for one thing - aggressiveness.

"Techniques are good but it doesn't matter if you are not aggressive," Brooks said. "Technique will come as long as you come to practice. It's not going to be great right now but we do expect the effort. That comes from your heart

"We are looking for those players that will be aggressive and hit somebody," Brooks said. "That's the name of the game. The most aggressive team normally wins."

The Bulldogs will travel to PN-G Saturday, Aug. 18 to take on the Indians at The Reservation at 4, 5 and 6 p.m.

"It should be good for us in helping us get ready for Livingston," Brooks said.

During Saturday's intersquad scrimmage, Brooks said he was pleased with level of play on the field.

While some players sat out of the scrimmage with excused absences, Brooks said that 32 participated in the scrimmage.

"I'm not too concerned about the numbers participating right now but later on we will need everyone playing," Brooks said. "We need everyone playing because we want to be fresh in the fourth quarter of our games and you can't do that with people out."

He said he could see that near the end of the scrimmage, techniques went out and tiredness started to sit in. The scrimmage was to begin at 10:30 a.m. but was delayed until almost noon.

"They were still trying to go hard but I didn't expect it to be great," Brooks said. "It was just our second day of practice in pads and they've been used to going in shorts. When you put those pads on, that makes a big difference."

He said during the scrimmage and first weeks of practices, some positions have been narrowed down and some players have secured starting slots.

"Each day, though, it could change," Brooks said. "It just depends on how you practice but we are narrowing it down and trying to get ready for Livingston."

DAWG HOUSE: This Thursday's Meet the Bulldogs event is scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Bone Yard. Construction is currently going on at the stadium and will limit the amount of seating at the stadium.
