Motor Sports The ASCS sprints return to the Motorama Speedway spotlight this Friday, Aug. 17. Their performances are always filled with fast pace thrills and often bone-jarring spills. Drivers in this series will be competing for Gulf South Regional and National points. In last Friday's action, the Pure Stock Challenge began with four hotly challenged contest. Early night heat wins went to Moose Small, Keith Lee Jr. and Robert Stanfield, Jr. Later in the evening, following an unfortunate feature incident, Lee forfeited his early night heat win, which was passed (along with points) into the hands of Britt Seaman. Seaman went on to take home the trophy in the "A" main. Kasey Champion was the feature runner-up with Eddie Thibodeaux placing third in the #25 car borrowed from his brother David. Seaman also competed in the limited modified class. He placed third in his heat but could only manage a 14th place finish in the feature after being penalized two positions for cutting the infield full throttle. After winning his heat, Howard Willis was a man on a mission in the limited main. He took over the lead from Billy Gould on lap six and was long gone for the checkered. John O. Whittington made it by Gould on lap 14 to capture the runnerup honors.Heat winners, Corey Babbitt and Bradley Foster followed Phillip Verrett to the line for fifth and sixth respectively. Shelby Richardson took a double win in the Jr. mini stock class. She was followed to the line in both contest by Mason Baker. Andrew Guidry, Taz Nelson, and Sara Kettl made the top five list. Johnny Brown Jr. won the first modified heat. Johnny Arthur made it past John O. Whittington for second place. Pete Sagmiller chalked up the second heat win after a terrific duel with Howard Willis. Rough driving later stripped Willis of that second place finish as well as the first place honors in the feature. John O. was awarded the win with Sagmiller beating Tracy Denby to the line for the runner-up spot. Josh Ferguson had an encounter with an infield tire while leading the first outlaw stock position round and went out of action. Kasey Garvin captured that flag while Jody Champion lead every lap of the second heat. In the feature, Keith Wuenschel, bolted out front. Mid way in the race Keith began to day dream about how he would spend his prize money when along came Rodney Johnson. On lap 11, he took the lead away from Keith but it must have served as a wake-up call. On the white flag lap, Wuenschel made it back into the lead and this time victory lane was his. The modified Stocks were lead through their paces by Bubba Haynes. Stuart Sandoz gave him a run for the money in both contest.. Ernest Haynes ran third in the heat and 6th in the "A." Jeff Bell took third ahead of Judd Utterback and Craig Stowe in the feature.
