Final tune-up Friday with Nederland
By JIMMY GALVAN Managing Editor

Newsboy photo/Jimmy Galvan OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR TY QUICK talks with Jasper's Octavious Rawls during a recent practice.
In the final tune-up before the start of the 2007 football season, Jasper Head Football Coach Thomas Brooks is seeking improvement and stability from his squad.

"We had seven guys sit out against PN-G and hopefully we will have those guys back and get them in the rotation," Brooks said. "At the end of PN-G, I could tell that the guys were getting tired and the focus was not there."

All of the seven injured are expected to be back and ready for action against the Bulldogs of Nederland.

Jasper will face off against a Nederland squad that last year dominated them during a road scrimmage contest.

The contest will be held at The Bone Yard at 5 p.m. with the freshmen playing, 6 for the junior varsity and varsity going at 7 p.m.

But Brooks believes his Dawgs are right where he needs them to be with season opener looming against Livingston Friday, Aug. 31.

"I will never be pleased but I think we are going in the right direction," Brooks said. "I guess I will be pleased that last ballgame after we win the state championship.

"I see so much work that we have to do," Brooks said. "We have the talent, there is no doubt about that we have the talent to do some good things this year."
