Control household pest problems
As fall gets closer, we will see cool fronts moving slowly into the East Texas area. Cool fronts cause household pest problems to increase. Insects like crickets, ants, waterbugs, roaches, spiders, scorpions, fleas, ticks and flies will cause problems. Household insect control should be done with caution. These pests will get in cabinets, store rooms, pantries and other places where they can hide. The insecticides to control these must be applied in these hiding places. If small children are present, further caution should be followed. Each material is to be used differently. First, read directions on each label and follow these as recommended. Safety is number one when using any pesticide. Search for insecticides that can be used indoors and use caution. Outside walls and windows can be sprayed with Sevin and malathion. These can also be used to spray under homes that are on blocks. Other materials that will help with roach control are; boric acid powder, bait boxes and traps. These must also be used with caution. Cabinets should be emptied, cleaned, treated with insecticides allowed to dry, fresh shelf paper placed on shelves and then replace freshly cleaned dishes. All cracks and hiding places should be sprayed well to eliminate hiding places. Food sources for rats and mice should be eliminated. Store pet foods and livestock feed in metal containers. Baits and traps should both be used if these continue to be a problem in your house, garage or outbuildings.
