Martin Dies Jr. State Park to hold Labor Day of Fun

The annual Labor Day of Fun at Martin Dies Jr. State Park is this Saturday, Sept. 1, for kids and parents.

Bring picnic lunches to eat lunch with the rangers at noon under the covered canopy in the Hen House Day Use Area.

"We encourage the kids to ask questions and tell us about their outdoors adventures," says Ranger Katherine Crippens.

From 2 - 4 p.m. parents can take their kids to the Nature Center on the` Walnut Side of the park for kids to construct their own fishing pole, make fish prints, practice using their cane poles and learn how to tie a hook onto their line.

Kids will learn to weigh their "fish," play games and snack on goldfish crackers and lemonade.

Martin Dies Jr. State Park is 11 miles west of Jasper on U.S. Highway 190. For more information call 383- 0144.
