Enrollment opens for adult education

Newsboy photo/Sharon Kerr REGION 5 offers free classes to prepare for the GED test, English as a Second Language and U.S. citizenship. Terrya Norsworthy, director, and Silvia Muir, instructor, took the opportunity to reach out to young parents visiting the Few Primary open house last week.
Adults attending open house at Few Primary School last week also had a chance to look into advancing their own education.

Representatives of the Region 5 Adult Education Center set up a table to let parents know they offer ESL (English as a second language), U.S. citizenship classes, and adult basic education to prepare for a GED test (general equivalence degree).

Terrya Norsworthy, adult education center director, and Silvia Muir, instructor, were on hand to explain in English or Spanish that, "It's never too late to learn," (nunca es tarde para aprender).

The classes are free of charge. The center serves Jasper, Newton and Tyler Counties. Fall registration for GED, Adult Basic Education and Workplace Readiness Skills continues through Friday, Aug. 31. Classes begin Sept. 4 at 8:30 a.m.
